A Year and A Day Pro Hiei’s red eyes opened warily and he surveyed his kitsune with caution. Moonlight spilled through the window to land on the blood red hair that fell around him in waves and Hiei couldn’t help himself as he leaned down to breath in the smell that was uniquely Kurama. Kurama murmured in his sleep and rolled over, draping his arm around Hiei’s neck and pulling him back down to the bed. Letting out a snort, Hiei wiggled free. “Fox.” Hiei whispered as he leaned down toward Kurama’s ear. “Fox….” Kurama let out an exasperated huff of warm air, and wiggled to get away from that tickling breath. “ Wake up…” “ Hiei, what time is it?” Kurama’s green eyes blinked open rapidly, slowly focusing on the smirking youkai before him, “ Is something wrong?” Hiei sighed and the smirk dropped off his face, “ Yeah, sort of.” Kurama was silent as he waited for Hiei to continue. He wisely used the time to snuggle up against Hiei and use all his warm for what it was worth. Finally settled, he steeled himself for whatever Hiei had to say. “ I’m leaving.” Time froze, and a clamp of ice encased Kurama’s heart and stole his breath. “ You’re…what?” Hiei’s eyes lowered, and he spoke in a hushed tone, “ I tried to hold it off for as long as I could, but Mukuro’s been on my back to come training for the longest time, and…” Kurama didn’t hear anything else, his mind revolved around three little words, < Hiei is leaving Hiei is leaving Hiei is leaving Hiei is leaving Hiei is leaving…> “Wait a minute!” Kurama said frantically as he turned to face Hiei, “ We’ve only spent three months together, you know how long those tests of hers take, you could be gone for months…” Hiei’s steady gaze broke Kurama from his daze, and he quieted and then was silent. “ Just,” he sighed, “ Just take care of yourself.” Hiei gave him a grateful kiss on the lips that brought a flush to his cheeks, “ Thanks for understanding, koibito.” They both lay back down to go to sleep, but Kurama’s eyes just would not close. “Hiei?” “Yes.” “ Why did you tell me now?’ Kurama heard a shuffle and felt Hiei’s hand cup his face. He struggled to make out his features in the darkness. “ I won’t be here in the morning, fox.” Letting out a shaky breath, Kurama closed his eyes and prepared to get some sleep, but he couldn’t help thinking, < How is it gonna be to wake up and not see Hiei beside me every night? I forgot what it feels like to be alone. > Swallowing his worries, he dug deeper into Hiei’s warmth and landed in an uneasy sleep. True to his word, Hiei wasn’t there in the morning. To Be Continued…
